Crunu and its alternatives
Four tools teams often weigh against Crunu, plus the habit many start from: a .env file pasted into chat. Each page puts the two side by side, says where the other option is the better pick, and lists the sources it relies on with the date we checked them.

| Crunu vs HashiCorp Vault | Where values are decryptedHashiCorp Vault: On the Vault server. Storage is untrusted; Vault encrypts before writing and decrypts once unsealed.Crunu: Only in the browser and the crunu agent. The server stores ciphertext and signed documents. | |
| Crunu vs Doppler | Where secrets are encryptedDoppler: On Doppler's side. Web servers send secrets to a tokenization service that encrypts them with a per-workplace AES-GCM key.Crunu: On your devices, in the browser and the crunu agent. The server stores ciphertext and signed documents. | |
| Crunu vs Infisical | Where secrets are decryptedInfisical: On the Infisical server, which decrypts stored data before responding to a clientCrunu: Only in the browser and the crunu agent. The server stores ciphertext and signed documents. | |
| Crunu vs .env files in chat | Someone leavesChat and notes: Copies stay in their history and devices. Nobody knows what they saw.Crunu: Environment keys are rotated, and an exposure report shows what they received |
How these pages are written
Facts about other tools come from public pages, mostly each vendor’s own documentation, pricing, security and license pages; the page about chat uses the chat apps’ help pages and OWASP guidance. Every page lists its sources with the date we read them. Prices change, so we describe how a tool charges, not what it charges.
Every page says where the other tool is stronger, and Crunu’s own gaps are listed on Security limitations. In short, pick something else today if you need dynamic credentials, single sign-on for people, mobile apps or built-in syncs into cloud platforms. Windows is not supported.
There is no importer for 1Password, Vault, Doppler or Infisical; each page explains the manual move. Found something wrong or out of date? Write to support@crunu.com with the page and the source, and we’ll check it and update the page and its date.
